Unions Give Members a Middle Finger

Union leaders across the country have abandoned their members. In a rush to prop up the left’s prop candidate, Kamala Harris, union leaders are throwing over their members at the behest of leadership that no longer reflects the interests of the workers they are paid to represent. The United Auto Workers rushed to endorse Harris shortly after the coup that put her at the top of the ticket. What have Democrats done to earn that favor: saddled Detroit automakers with EV requirements that are well on their way to bankrupting the American auto industry. Ford is currently losing $132,000 for every EV they sell, amounting to billions of dollars per year. At the start of the year, General Motors was forced to acknowledge EV sales had declined by 21 percent vs their previous Q1 results. They’re not doing this of their own volition; both companies are responding to Biden / Harris EPA mandates, not market dynamics. Unless the market changes dramatically in the next few years, both automakers are likely to begin seeking enormous layoffs as they desperately struggle to remain afloat. 

Not taxing tips would be result in an immediate increase in disposable income for a huge percentage of hospitality workers. Despite that UNITE HERE, the hospitality workers union, likewise endorsed Harris over Trump. Which isn’t terribly surprising when you consider that UNITE HERE’s political goals have as much to do with DEI and replacing the meritocracy with forced equalization of outcomes as they do with supporting the workers who pay their salaries. 

Essentially the same conditions are in place at the AFL-CIO, SEIU, and AFSCME -three of the nation’s oldest and largest unions. In each case, the exploding regulatory and tax regimes supported by Kamala Harris and the far left will have devastating impacts on their members, and in each case their union leadership voted to endorse Harris on ideological grounds that hold little interest for large swaths of their membership. The only Harris-supporting unions that aren’t actively screwing over their members in pursuit of the preferred politics of their leadership are the teachers - who long ago gave up trying to educate kids and turned our public schools into leftist indoctrination and tax dollar extraction centers to benefit themselves rather than continue to worry about things they see as irrelevancies, like student achievement. 

All of that doesn’t even touch on the police and fire unions across the country who continue to endorse Democrats who actively work to defund and diminish their departments in favor of spending ever increasing sums on leftist social workers. 

Union members need to do two things: 1) ignore leadership that doesn’t represent you anymore, and vote for your own interests. 2) Vote out union leaders who put their politics ahead of your needs.
