In 2021, Democrats passed H.R. 1, named the For The People Act, which was a huge left-wing federal power grab. If the bill had become law, it would have nationalized our elections. Joe Biden went so far as to call Republicans like Mitt Romney, who opposed it, Bull Connor and George Wallace, the infamous Southern racists. Here’s an idea: Republicans should reintroduce the bill and dare Democrats to vote for it.
H.R. 1 would have created new election laws that would make states liable for Department of Justice lawsuits, and which, in practice, the executive branch could selectively enforce in some states but not others.
It would make civic groups and nonprofits prone to lawsuits, which, again, would in practice be selectively enforced.
It would expand the powers of the Election Assistance Commission, whose members are appointed by the president.
The genius of our election system is that it is not centralized. If there is only one entity that oversees elections, you can cheat and steal elections by controlling that single entity.
In America, 50 states and the District of Columbia have their own different rules, and then each county independently has its own election commissioner. If you want to steal an election, you need to control 1,000 different organizations. A pretty good checks and balances system.
Democrats wanted to change that and put all their eggs in the basket of the federal executive branch.
Let’s do it, folks! Let’s put the Trump administration in charge of all elections.
Maybe we should reintroduce the For The People Act, give the president the power to set election rules, and allow the Justice Department to selectively decide which states and nonprofits they sue for election violations and which ones they let slip. I am sure that Democrats would love it if the Trump administration had this kind of power.
Democracy is the fight of our time, and I have on the Democrats’ authority that the only way to save it is by passing this bill. Not just that, if you oppose this bill, you are a Southern segregationist and a racist.
If you don’t think that President Trump should run all elections in America, you are Bull Connor, you are George Wallace. Sure, Democrats do not want to be those things and will be happy to give the administration all these powers, right?
Let’s reintroduce the bill and see how honest Democrats were about wanting that terrible bill to become law, or whether they just wanted to act as if Republicans are anti-democracy, even though deep down they all knew that it was a terrible idea.
In other words, let us see whether Democrats are liars or stupid. My money is on both!
