USA Today features a column today by school destroying, education annihilating, teachers’ union head Randi Weingarten, who blames Ron DeSantis and MAGA Republicans for the precipitous decline in public education. Given that the decline in public schools is almost entirely the intentional outcome of Randi Weingarten’s union members and allies, her piece would be hilarious, except there are tons of people who don’t know better and won’t realize that Randi Weingarten is a lying, conniving, incompetent fraudster leading a national parade of idiots running our public schools.
I remember the first time I heard that they dumbed down the SAT – shortly after I graduated high school – and wondered why? I mean, the point of the SAT isn’t a specific scoring outcome, it’s as a measure of comparison to your peers and of the basic foundational knowledge kids need to succeed in college. So why dumb it down? Who did that help? Then they did it again, and again. And again. The SAT today is laughable compared to the version kids had to navigate in prior to the late 90s. Again, why? Who benefits?
Teachers’ unions.
Not the kids, not the parents, certainly not the college professors trying to grade papers for kids who can neither spell, nor form complete sentences. Teachers’ unions across America have spent decades now dumbing down our educational system as part of a push to replace merit-based outcomes with fluff measurements that studiously avoid finding out if kids are learning anything from the people in charge of their classrooms. That’s certainly not being done to protect kids – no matter how much the Whinergartens of the world want to claim otherwise – it’s being done to hide the utter incompetence of the people running our schools and many of the teachers pretending to instruct kids in them.
Teachers’ unions turned public schools from institutions of learning into jobs programs for angsty adult children like Randi Weingarten. The reason Randi and her mis-educators are freaking out now and looking for someone to blame is the pandemic gave parents and close up look at the content and curation of their kids educations, and parents were – rightly – appalled. The system is a disaster, the kids are not alright, and everyone knows it. But rather than accept blame for her own misguided career and the endemic failures of the system Randi and her friends built, they blame someone else.
If you want to read Randi’s repugnant take on her own failure, here it is.

I despise clicking likes without adding at least minimal comments. I wholeheartedly agree with your take on the SAT and that it helps no one as you put "dumbing it down". I don't have specific provenance but it sure seems like the left's influences are what can be held responsible for not only the failings of our education system but most of the deterioration of American society.
