A deeper look at 'Bidenomics' economic realities during the holidays
By Chuck Warren
President Joe Biden just tweeted that the prices have come down since last year. And he’s right. But for some reason, he is stopping at last year, not the year before, or 2019, when the previous administration was exactly at the same stage—three years into the presidency. So let’s take a look at how those prices have changed since 2019.
The average airplane ticket has increased $35. The price of gas has gone up €69 a gallon. It’s $43 more expensive to rent a car for a day. A gallon of milk is almost $1 more expensive. It costs $1.78 to buy a pound of bacon and $1.28 to buy a pound of vegetables. Buying a used vehicle is $6,700 more expensive. And this doesn’t include tents, offices leases , mortgages rates, increase in auto, home and health insurance costs - everything is going up.
Thanksgiving meal is also cheaper than last year. It costs around $62 now, $3 cheaper than last year—and $15 more expensive than in 2019. A Democratic pundit tweeted about this celebrating Biden’s success. The point was obviously lost on him.
Now, the Democrats will argue that wages have gone up too. Again, they are right, but they should answer another question: Have wages gone up enough? In a healthy economy, wages grow faster than prices. Under Biden, wages have lagged behind prices, forcing people to either use their savings, accumulate credit card debts, and lower their living standards.
The average hourly wage has gone up from $28.18 to $34.00. What this means is that an average worker now, instead of 4.5 hours, has to work 5 hours to buy an airplane ticket. A worker in 2019 could pay for a used car by working 705 hours, but now he has to work 780 hours. That’s 75 hours more, almost two more weeks of full-time work. So even if things weren’t as bad as last year, they are still worse than before Biden became President. And this is only what has become cheaper. Most items are now more expensive than last year, but for some reason he only tweeted the few that didn’t get more expensive. I’m sure it was an accident!
The Democrats keep trying to convince the American people not to believe their own eyes and wallets that these are difficult economic times. First, they caused the problem. Now, they are treating us like fools. Next year, they will be asking for your vote.
