Last Monday, the $6 billion hostage-swap deal, likely part a broader secret nuclear agreement between the Joe Biden administration and the Islamic Republic of Iran, went into effect. It is a step towards building goodwill between the two sides for a comprehensive agreement. A day later, Iran’s government announced that it would kick out international inspectors it had agreed to allow into its nuclear facilities. The same day, the Islamic Republic’s president, Ebrahim Raisi, took the U.N. General Assembly to give his address which focused on, what else, condemning the United States, promising to end American influence, and committing to revenge against former Donald Trump administration officials for killing of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps general, Qassem Soleimani, known to be the most successful terrorist leader since Usama Bin Ladin. Biden might be shocked that Iran is biting the hand that fed it, but people with common sense are not.
Raisi’s speech began with condemning American influence. It included praising Palestinian terrorists and celebrating the Taliban’s victor over the United States. He added that liberalism, that of the Founding Fathers and not the Democratic Party, had failed. He concluded by, again, condemning the United States as “the world’s only nuclear criminal” while, in the same breath, calling for the United States to build trust with his government to be able to return to the Barack Obama era nuclear agreement.
Someone might laugh at such audacity, but crying is in order because based on what we have seen from Democrats, it will work. Since the 1979 revolution, the regime in Iran has always used similar language and Democrats have nonetheless tried to improve relations with a regime that chants death to America and death to Israel.
To stick with the death theme, Raisi’s government has enlisted its spies to kill American citizens. These include Iranian–American dissidents like Reza Pahlavi, the son of the late Shah, and Masih Alinejad, journalist and advocate for Iranian women’s rights. They also include Trump administration officials like Mike Pompeo, John Bolton, and Brian Hook, whom Iran holds responsible for the killing of its general, Qassem Soleimani. Last year, FBI arrested the Islamic Republic’s spy for plotting to kill these former officials. A year later, Biden gave Iran the money to continue these plots.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Biden’s Iran policy easily qualifies as insanity.
