First, the great thing about America on this July 4th weekend is we have the right to free speech and the right to assemble. Something Elon Musk is taking advantage of by creating a new political party, the American Party.
He states this will be a centrist party (something many of his personal policies do not resemble), but primarily a party that will supposedly focus on getting America's fiscal house in order.
So as he begins this grand adventure, here are a few insights and questions:
Budget Deficit and National Debt?
Since he is organizing this party under the guise of fiscal restraint and responsibility (what good conservative can argue with that?), what is his 2-3 year plan to balance the budget and 10-year plan to reduce the national debt?
Unless his party and his candidates provide those answers, this is an exercise in vanity and simply a grudge match against Trump.
Entitlements?
To truly get our nation's fiscal house in order, you have to rein in entitlements. How big of a fiscal burden are entitlements? The "entitlement programs have constituted roughly two-thirds of the total U.S. federal budget. This includes major programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Specifically, in fiscal year 2023, mandatory spending (which includes entitlements) made up around 60% of the federal budget, totaling $3.8 trillion. "
So the only way this gets done is if Democrats and their mouthpieces in the Legacy Media acknowledge the problem, agree to reach across the aisle, and work to get these programs on sound financial footing.
Today, this is impossible. One example, look at how the Democrats and their propagandist media outlets are screaming about the Big Beautiful Bill and supposed Medicaid cuts. As Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said this morning, "only in D.C. is a 20% hike over 10 years a 'cut' ... Medicaid was designed for pregnant women, the disabled and families with children under 14, will be refocused."
So a 20% increase over 10 years is considered a cut by Democrats and the legacy media. Godspeed Mr. Musk.
Caucus and Speaker?
If the American Party wins a seat in the House of Representatives or U.S. Senate, who will they caucus with? Democrats or Republicans? Who will they vote for as Speaker or Senate Majority Leader when they are sworn in? If it is Hakeem Jeffries or Sen. Chuck Schumer, these are not fiscal hawks.
Majority at Stake?
If the American Party candidates knock off an incumbent Republican member and he or she is replaced with a Democrat, what happens to border enforcement, immigration reform, transgender politics, law and order policies, free speech (Democrats hate that, just ask the owner of X), etc.
You cannot balance a budget with today's socialist Democrat Party. Case in point.
“Multiple sources estimate that the total annual cost of illegal immigration to the United States (at the federal, state, and local levels) is in the range of over $150 billion." Reality: that number is probably much higher.
If Democrats control Congress, those numbers come right back up. Not sure American Party supporters have thought through the consequences and drawbacks if they knock off Republican members. Maybe that does not matter if this is an exercise in vanity and spite.
Some advice for Republicans.
Do not try to block ballot access to the American Party. It will backfire. Do not be like Democrats who try to squelch free speech and the right to assemble. In the 2024 election cycle, they worked overtime via courts and liberal donors to block the No Labels Party and Green Party from getting on the ballot. Do not believe me? Just Google it.
Democrats worked feverishly to keep Democrat opponents of Biden off primary ballots. The party that gave word salad Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee without a vote, is not something you want to model our electoral behavior after.
Let's not be schmucks like the Democrats. Just run good campaigns, have a plan to get our fiscal house in order and 2026 will turn out just fine for you.
P.S. Can President Trump be Bought?
Apparently not for the $280 million Musk spent on his election, plus who knows how much on the inauguration. You can despise and hate Trump all you want, but for $280 million, Biden would have folded like wet origami. Heck, Democrats do it for the approximately $100 million the teachers' unions provide them every election cycle.
Note: the opinions expressed herein are those of Chuck Warren only and not his co-host Sam Stone or Breaking Battlegrounds’ staff.
Mr. Musk may be brilliant, however he's naïve. He has lots of money to throw at all his fever dreams, and in my opinion a party such as that he envisions should be the Republicans if they walked their own talk. The problem is he doesn't have the votes to do anything except be a spoiler like Perot, and like Perot all he'll do is take votes away from the candidate his opinions most agree with - probably a Republican. So, again in my opinion, Musk is talking like a fiscal hawk but enabling the Democrat Party. Not my choice for sure.
