The DOJ announced this week that they are pursuing charges against investors in Tenet Media for evading sanctions against Russia. Here are 7 facts about the indictment:
Per the indictment, Tenet Media personalities Tim Pool, Benny Johnson, Dave Rubin, and others involved had no knowledge of or involvement in securing funding from Russian sources.
The indictment came days after Pool filed a defamation lawsuit against Kamala Harris.
Youtube and others acted swiftly to remove Tenet Media from their platforms. Some media are praising their action, others note the DOJ’s politicization, that a charging document is not proof of wrongdoing, and assert this is a continued assault on free speech by the Biden / Harris administration
Mirroring charges were filed in Canada against Tenet Media’s co-founders Lauren Chen and her husband Liam Donovan.
Canadian commentator / reporter Lauren Southern, a personal friend of Chen’s, has also been named in the indictment, but like the U.S. media personalities involved does not appear to have had knowledge of the source of the funding.
There is nothing in the allegation that asserts media personalities involved altered their coverage or promoted any specific pro-Russia talking points at the request of the investors or Tenet Media founders.
Despite breathless headlines suggesting Russia was trying to influence the U.S. Presidential election, there is nothing in the allegation that suggests Russia was targeting the election (Given the involvement of Southern, it seems more likely that Russia’s aim – if any or all of this is proven to be true – was to influence public perception of the Ukraine / Russia conflict).
Lastly, as we have seen in news reports over the last few years, both China and Iran are clearly engaged in funding U.S. political commentary, protests, and have even bought a few politicians along the way. Those actions haven’t received much coverage, the charges against Tenet Media have. Anyone want to guess why that is?
Well, gee: That's like guessing why Joke Briben is still in the White House with his dementia. But it seems to me that #2 is the most obvious reason, with #7 a close second.
