From the NEWS YOU SHOULD KNOW file.
The Biden Administration is attacking a growing business in order to feed its progressive, activists, ACTBlue masters. The most recent deplorable stunt, according to the Wall Street Journal, "The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Fresno, Calif.-based Meathead Movers this year for violating age-discrimination law by not hiring enough older workers." You can read more here.
The company's theme and brand is young, muscular people who come to your house or office and move your furniture. Wall Street Journal elaborated further, "Some Meathead Movers’ trucks are stamped with the moniker “student athlete movers.” Youthful-looking employees pump iron before grabbing furniture, according to a recent social-media advertisement. Employees compete in the Meathead Olympics in which they compete to assemble and leap over boxes. Numerous corporate Facebook posts show workers flexing with biceps bulging. Employees, dubbed “Meatheads,” must jog from truck to house when not carrying furniture. The Meathead Movers Invitational is a company-sponsored wrestling tournament."
Well this has raised the self-righteous ire of Washington, DC regulatory hacks. The EEOC says "allegations against Meathead focus on marketing and hiring practices that could discourage older workers from applying. Current employees are asked to scour local gyms, colleges and places where they would hang out normally for new hires, according to the EEOC."
While this is just ridiculous at face value, the comment that really had me bursting in laughter is from Bill Alvarado Rivera, senior vice president for litigation at AARP who is applauding this action. He had the temerity to say, "“Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is over 50. I’m pretty sure he would be good at moving boxes. That kind of stereotype about who could be a good mover has no place in an economy that values individuals.”
After you stop laughing, let's realize a few points:
If you are over 50 and look like the Rock, I am sure they would hire you. If you want to move furniture 6-8 hours a day.
Nowhere in this company's employment process do they actually discourage older people. For example, I am in very good shape which is the result of working out 5-6 days a week for almost four decades. I'm sure if I agree and follow the company policy, they would hire me. That being said, they are selling a brand. It is called marketing and AARP pimps their brand all the time. Is the EEOC going to apply these Meathead Mover standards to businesses like strip clubs?
For all of those, like me, over 50, if you have other options, do you want to move furniture 6-8 hours a day for $15-$27 an hour? I do not. Heck, I had two nightstands from Crate and Barrel delivered last week and tipped the two movers generously to take it upstairs for me. But if you do want this job, and are physically able, Meathead Movers has a job for you.
The key phrase here is "physically able." In the United States, "44.3% among adults aged 40 to 59 years, and 41.5% among adults aged 60 and older" are obese. In addition, "Only about 30% of people ages 45 to 64 say they engage in regular leisure-time physical activity." Physically able is key here. I am sure the Biden regulators know this, but hey the injured older adults can always get worker's comp or sue the company for injuries sustained on the job. Why not throw another cost on an American business? Seems to be the Biden Administrations consistent strategy.
Now, this doesn't mean there are no people over 50 who can do this job. While many older adults are not in the best of shape versus these young Meathead Movers, there are some who can. If they want the job, Meathead Movers has a job for you for $15 - $27 an hour plus tip at $5 per hour.
Folks, aren't you exhausted with DC yet?
